Fen Tigers Commercial Manager Neil "Nikko" Day said "Although we had been very successful in all other areas of sponsorship in recent months I had not been able to secure the Team Sponsorship. However I never gave up hope and all the hours of effort paid of when I spoke to Darren Grimwood recently. Darren will be known to Fen Tigers supporters as part of Casper Wortmanns pit crew from last season and I spoke to him about how things were going. He mentioned that his partner Susie Willis ran a very successful catering company, Funky Catering, and this led me to discussing the possibility of sponsorship with Susie. We quickly came to an agreement and the team sponsorship deal was finalised in record time".

Day continued "I immediately invited Susie, Darren and their family to press and practice on Sunday and although very short notice I am very pleased that they have accepted. We will launch the sponsorship at Press & Practice and their logo and website details will appear on the our Race Jackets, Programme and Official Website".

Speaking about the new sponsors Day continued "Funky Catering recently won the contract to supply the food to Blue Square Premier League football club Cambridge United and the owners also run the very successful Funky Playhouse in Cambridge and recently hit the headlines locally running an extremely effective campaign to encourage families on low incomes of the financial and health benefits of cooking and eating well. We welcome Susie, Darren and all the staff at Funky Catering to the Fen Tigers, thank them for their support and hope they enjoy their season with us".

Funky Catering Wins United Contract

Funky Catering, based in Cambridge, has been awarded the contract to supply the food to Cambridge United.

Unsurprisingly, Susie Willis from Funky Catering, is quite excited. "Little by little," she says, "Funky Catering has acquired a glowing reputation.  For the past few years now, we've been taking slightly bigger bites of the corporate catering market and our new contract with Cambridge United is a huge step forward.

In addition to providing sponsors meals, refreshments throughout the season and catering for events such as the Sportsmans Dinner, Funky Catering is taking over the Harris Suite at the ground, with a view to offering a facility for outside events, breakfasts and a ‘pub’ facility 7 days a week.

Funky Catering is holding an open evening on Thursday 12 March to present its ideas to fans and season ticket holders, where there will also be an open forum, so that users of the facility can put forward their own ideas.

George Rolls, Chairman at Cambridge United, awarded the contract as part of his plan to increase and improve hospitality facilities and further endorse the growing reputation of the club and its teams, both on and off the field. ‘We are looking forward to seeing the difference that Funky is going to make next season, and fully support the opportunities being put forward for the Harris Suite’.

This isn't the first time that Funky Catering has put its money where its mouth is.  Last year, the company ran an extremely effective campaign alongside Romsey Mill to encourage families on low incomes of the financial and health benefits of cooking and eating well.
